Actress Aya Sumika was in Vancouver over the Labor Day weekend for her wedding to Trevor John .
Sumika, who portrays Liz Warner on the CBS show "Numb3rs," and John continued a family tradition by having the ceremony in John's grandmother's backyard.
John, 29, attended a private high school in Seattle, but lived most of his life in Vancouver. He met Sumika at school and they've been a couple for more than 12 years.
Trevor's mother, Vancouver artist Anne John , said her mother-in-law's yard had been the setting of weddings for Trevor's two brothers and sister. Gloria John 's home is in Vancouver.
"Her backyard is this beautiful secret garden," Sumika said. "There was never any question about where we would have the wedding."
This is Sumika's second season of "Numb3rs," which debuted four years ago. It airs at 10 p.m. Fridays on KOIN-TV.
The couple was back in Vancouver two weeks ago to help John's family celebrate the 40th anniversary of his parents, Anne and Jerry John .
